Approach to Ensuring Environmental Resilience from Climate Change in the Highlands of Tajikistan

On November 10 this year, Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat in Tajikistan held a side event on “An Approach to environmental resilience from climate change in high mountains of Republic of Tajikistan” at the pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan under the framework of 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Sharm-El-Sheikh.

This event was organized to address the growing risks associated with climate change throughout the country. Critical needs were also discussed and a platform for best practice and policy development through activities such as risk, vulnerability and risk assessment and mapping, disaster relief, remote sensing of hazards, aerial photography of glaciers and glacial lakes, bathymetric assessment and modeling, which in turn contribute to raising awareness and preparedness for natural disasters and risks, strengthening institutional capacity in the field of preparedness for planning and emergency response.

It should be noted that this side event attended by Abdullo Kurbonzoda – Director of Agency for the Hydrometeorology Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Republic of Tajikistan, Nawab Ali Khan – CEO Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Tajikistan, Nazarzoda Rustam - Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan.
