Holding a side event "Young leaders of Central Asia on the way to carbon neutrality - implementation of the decisions of the COP-26 of the UNFCCC" at the Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan

On November 10 this year, the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) held a side event on the theme “Young leaders of Central Asia on the way to carbon neutrality - implementation of the decisions of the UNFCCC COP-26” at the national Pavilion, which was organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic Tajikistan under the framework of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Sharm Al-Sheikh.

The purpose of this side event was to promote Central Asian youth initiatives on climate change and water, as well as the transition to carbon neutrality at the global, regional and national levels, in accordance with the decisions and results of the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP-26) of the UNFCCC. A Joint Regional Statement by Central Asian Young Leaders on Climate Change was developed by CALP alumni and members of the Central Asia First RCOY CA Working Group and will be presented at the side event.

As part of this event, the following tasks were also put forward:

– promote the role of youth in climate change issues, the transition to carbon neutrality and adaptation initiatives at the regional level at COP-27 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC);

– present the Regional Statement of Central Asian Youth to the participants of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP27) as part of the youth contribution to the COP-27 UNFCCC Summit;

– promote the CALP Alumni Network as a neutral regional dialogue platform for youth on climate change and carbon neutrality, and highlight the importance of strengthening Central Asian youth networking;

– demonstrate youth participation, regional and local mobilization and action, and engagement of communities, civil society, the public sector and youth in multi-stakeholder partnerships.
