Construction of a rehabilitation center for rare animals of Tajikistan in Murghab district

The processes of rapidly increasing anthropogenic impact on the environment contribute to the extinction of certain species of rare animals. One of the rare species that is constantly monitored today is the snow leopard. There are only 11 countries in the world that are home to the snow leopard or tiger in the wild. Tajikistan is also included in the list of these countries.

The snow leopard is a symbol of mountain ecosystems of Tajikistan, and therefore the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan began the construction of a rehabilitation center for rare animals in the Murghab district of GBAO, especially for the protection and restoration of this endangered species. It should be noted that in Tajikistan for the past 50 years, hunting of this wild animal is prohibited, its protection is one of the main activities of the environmental protection authorities.

For the construction of the center allocated 10 hectares of land in the area Jamantal Murgab district and in early September this year, construction work began. Until today, 20% of the construction work has been completed at the site.

The rehabilitation center consists of a sanitary unit, quarantine area and a viewing tower for tourists.

The commissioning of this rare rehabilitation center in Tajikistan is scheduled for 2022. The main purpose of the construction of the rehabilitation center is to restore the snow leopard population and treat them when they are sick or injured.
