Meeting of the CEP Chairman with the Ministers of Environmental Protection of the Central Asian countries and the OSCE Secretary General in Ashgabat                 


                                          


Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda took part in a high-level meeting between the ministers of environment of the Central Asian countries and the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on March 4 this year.

The meeting was attended by heads of environmental agencies from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, as well as the OSCE Secretary General. Key topics covered during this meeting included climate change, environmental security, environmental protection, water diplomacy and disaster risk reduction.

Particular attention in the speech of the CEP Chairman was paid to the global initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, to declare 2025 the International Year of Glacier Protection and the corresponding resolution of the UN General Assembly. The Chairman invited all participants of the meeting to take part in the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Accelerated Development 2018-2028”, which will be held on June 10-13, 2024 in Dushanbe.

Bahodur Sheralizoda also emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in addressing climate change and its impact on the environment. Participants discussed strategies for strengthening cooperation, sharing experiences, and implementing climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.

The meeting also focused on protecting the environment, with special emphasis on preserving natural resources, biodiversity and reducing pollution. Effective measures to protect the environment were discussed and the need for joint efforts to combat environmental degradation was emphasized.
