Discussing issues related to the management of empty pesticide containers and agricultural plastic waste with the participation of farmers in Gisar

                                                                     

On October 25, at the initiative of the Aarhus Center, together with the State Institution of the Stockholm Center for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) of the Committee for Environmental Protection, in the conference hall of the LLC. Latif Murodov of Gissar district and with the participation of farm managers, a round table was held on the topic “Management system for containers freed from pesticides and agricultural plastic waste”. Before the start of the event, information materials were distributed to the participants, including booklets entitled “Safety measures for handling empty pesticide containers”, which were published by the Committee for Environmental Protection.

     The head of the Aarhus Center of the Committee Yakubov Jamoliddin informed the participants about the essence of the Aarhus Convention, its principles and the activities of the Aarhus Centers of Tajikistan. In particular, the importance of adopting the “State Comprehensive Program for the Development of Environmental Education and Enlightenment of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025” was noted. This state program provides a good opportunity to inform the population at the proper level.

Director of the Stockholm Center of the Institute of Environmental Protection Juraev Abdusalim, during his speech, spoke about the essence of the adoption of international environmental conventions, including the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, and stated that at present there are no landfills for temporary storage of hazardous waste in the republic, as a result which is why a lot of waste from industrial enterprises, pesticides, and even empty containers from pesticides are left in unsanitary places that violate the environment, the environment and people's health.

Then the participants discussed the state of the containers emptied of pesticides after use, unanimously came to the conclusion that to provide timely information and organize a warehouse for the collection of containers emptied of pesticides and pesticides, and LLC them L. Muradov was considered acceptable for this purpose.
