Meeting of the Tajikistan delegation with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe    

On March 25, 2022, the delegation of Tajikistan conducted a meeting with the Director of Environmental Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Mr. Marco Keiner and its representatives on the preparation of the Environmental Performance Review of the Republic of Tajikistan and discussed the implementation of the Aarhus Convention.

The head of the delegation, Mr. Dustzoda Dilovarshoh presented a brief overview of the ongoing work and initiatives under the Aarhus Convention in Tajikistan, issues of capacity building and institutional capacity on biosafety issues, which are a priority in the study of GMOs/LMOs in the country and, in general, activities implemented in Tajikistan in the field of environmental protection and climate change.

Mr. Marco Keiner noted that the preparation of the Environmental Performance Review is important and a priority issue. In this direction, we are actively working with colleagues from the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and a roadmap for the further implementation of measures in this direction is under development. Mr Keiner also noted the readiness to assist in the preparation of the Review. As well was noted that in April this year a regional meeting in this direction is planned to be conducted.

At the end there was an agreed to strengthen cooperation on technical and institutional capacity to implement the Aarhus Convention as a priority area of cooperation.
