Official opening of the 5th Central Asian Climate Change Conference in Dushanbe
On May 16, 2023, the official opening of the "Central Asia Climate Change Conference" (CACC2023) was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Dushanbe, bringing together delegations from CentralAsia to agree on the next steps to implement the ParisAgreement.
The conference participants discuss measures to prevent climate change in the region. The conference was attended by representatives from relevant Central Asian ministries, international organizations, the civil sector, and academia.
The conference was co-organized by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia, and the WorldBank.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mavlododod Abdulkodir made a welcoming speech.
The speech highlighted the importance of coordination efforts among environmental authorities in the region on the issues discussed, including the promotion and expansion of regional dialogue on cooperation and coordination on national climate priorities and climate finance.
Ms. Tatyana Proskuryakova, Regional Director of the World Bank in Central Asia, noted that the World Bank pays much attention to climate change issues at the global and regional level. In Central Asia the bank helps countries to develop practical green growth strategies and attract investment for their implementation.
The agenda also includes a number of side events, which are attended by representatives of government agencies, NGOs, international organizations, academia, and representatives of youth organizations.
