Participation of a representative of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan at the meeting of the Range States on Institutional Framework and Next Steps for the Central Asian Flyway

A meeting of the Range States on Institutional Framework and Next Steps for the Central Asian Flyway was held in New Delhi, India on 2-5 May this year. The meeting was attended by Abdukayum Kalandarzoda from the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The meeting was based on the history of previous meetings of CAF (Central Asian Flyway) Range States, activities of the Range States as well as the developments and collaborative activities undertaken by the Government of India and the Secretariats of the Convention on Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds Agreement (AEWA) and Memorandum of Understanding on Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MOU). The meeting was held in line with the decisions of the 1st Thirteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CMS, held in Gandhinagar, India, in 2020.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss and, if possible, agree on an institutional framework for CAF. The purpose of the meeting was also to draw conclusions from the CAF Conservation Analysis Report published in 2022, coordinated by BirdLife International; to discuss priority areas for action; and to agree a draft roadmap for updating the CMS CAF Action Plan for the Conservation of Migratory Waterbirds and their Habitats, given its extension to non-waterbird CAF taxa; and to further develop and agree next steps to inform the draft decisions to be proposed at the 14th Stor.
