Planting seedlings at the toxic chemicals dump of the Vakhsh district

On December 10 of this year, under the leadership of the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Z. S. Qiyomzoda, an action was held at the toxic chemicals landfill located in the Tashurobad zone of the Vakhsh district with the involvement and participation of heads and specialists of city and district departments and subordinate structures of the Main Department of Environmental Protection of the Khatlon region, volunteers of the public organization "Peshsaf", representatives of the Aarhus centers of the cities of Dushanbe and Bokhtar.

This initiative was undertaken by the State Institution of the National Center for the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Sustainable Organic Pollutants of the Committee for Environmental Protection and with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.

Within the framework of the event, the participants planted 1,500 saplings of trees adapted to the climate of this place. The action was attended by the head of the Environment Department of the Department of Economy and Environment of the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe Muhabbat Kamarova, officials of the toxic chemicals landfill of the Vakhsh district, volunteers and other activists.

It should be noted that the management of the Committee for Environmental Protection, in order to take measures to adapt to the effects of climate change in all regions of the country, ordered during the planting season to select and plant tree varieties depending on the local climate.
