Preparations for the 5th Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACC-2023)

Tajikistan is the host country of CACCI-2023, where climate change and development will be discussed. In the context of climate change, climate change mitigation and adaptation in areas such as water, energy, food, and the environment will be discussed. Addressing these issues in an integrated manner may be of great importance for the future of the Central Asian region both in terms of environmental and climate sustainability and economic and demographic development. Changes in ecological systems, melting glaciers, frequent droughts, and other natural disasters necessitate urgent action to adapt to climate change and manage water resources sustainably.

Tajikistan demonstrates leadership in global initiatives such as the International Decade of Action "Water for Life" (2005-2015) and "Water for Sustainable Development" (2018-2028) plays a leading role in the High-Level Symposium on Sustainable Development Goals - 6 (SDG-6) its objectives: achieving universal access to water and sanitation.

At the opening ceremony of the UN Conference on the midterm comprehensive review of the goals of the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028," the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan HE Emomali Rahmon said, "Water resources today are severely affected by various challenges and threats that affect all areas of human life, especially food security, green energy production, and nature sustainability. In this regard, climate change, as a factor affecting drinking water resources, is also at the center of our attention. Over the past five decades, per capita water availability has declined almost two and a half times worldwide, and more than four times in some regions of the world, including Central Asia.

It should be noted that the climate sustainability of the region can only be achieved by joint problem solving, taking into account the most important transboundary interests of the region, and each country of the region is interested and ready to make efforts to jointly address the existing environmental problems of Central Asia.

Coordinated activities of all countries in the region will enable successful adaptation to climate change in Central Asia.

Coordination of activities should be based on a balanced and pragmatic consideration of the interests of all countries in the region and the improvement of the institutional and legal framework. We need to pay more attention to the development of relevant infrastructures and the regulation of transboundary natural resources in order to ensure climate sustainability.

Only by addressing climate issues together, by building solidarity, and by adopting a common Central Asian position on climate change can we build a successful foundation for the region's development in the face of climate change.

It is important to emphasize the holding of joint regional events, such as CACCC contributes significantly to deepening and expanding the dialogue on developing joint solutions to the problems caused by climate change.

The 5th Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC-2023) is organized by the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
