Tajikistan and the Green Climate Fund strengthen cooperation and climate initiatives                   


                                          


On November 16, 2023, Sheralizoda Bahodur, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Henry Gonzalez, Deputy Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) met in Incheon, South Korea. The meeting, held at GCF headquarters, was aimed at further strengthening cooperation between Tajikistan and the international climate finance institution.

The discussion centered around various aspects of the ongoing cooperation between Tajikistan and GCF. Both sides reviewed project implementation progress, regional cooperation, as well as Tajikistan's global initiatives on water, climate and glaciers. The meeting also focused on GCF support to Tajikistan on climate change adaptation.

One of the key topics of the meeting was to discuss the adoption of a new GCF country program in Tajikistan. This program includes various projects and initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development in the country. It is in line with Tajikistan's national priorities and will serve as a roadmap for cooperation between Tajikistan and GCF in the period until 2027.

Mr. Bahodur Sheralizoda expressed gratitude to the GCF for its continued support and emphasized the importance of the meeting in strengthening Tajikistan's efforts to combat climate change and protect its natural resources. He emphasized Tajikistan's commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of glaciers, which are critical to the region's ecosystems and water resources.

Mr. Henry Gonzalez recognized the importance of Tajikistan's role in combating climate change and praised the country for its active participation and leadership. He assured Tajikistan of GCF's continued support and cooperation in achieving climate and sustainable development goals.

The meeting between Tajikistan and GCF demonstrated the strong partnership between the two organizations and their shared commitment to address climate change. Through joint efforts and implementation of effective projects, this partnership is ready to make a significant contribution to combating climate change and sustainable development in Tajikistan and the region as a whole.
