Tajikistan presents ambitious plans for the NDC Implementation on Climate Finance Forum for Central Asia and South Caucasus"

In Dushanbe, July 3, 2023, at the Climate Finance Forum for Central Asia and the South Caucasus, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan presented its NDC Implementation Plan and NDC Climate Finance Plan, detailing the country's strategy for achieving its updated and enhanced NDC Targets under the Paris Agreement.

The forum, organized by the #NDC Partnership and the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (#UNFCCC), brings together regional stakeholders to identify areas for joint work and cooperation to effectively implement the NDC.

Tajikistan's NDC Implementation Plan provides a roadmap of mitigation and adaptation actions to achieve significant long-term emission reductions - over 50% by 2030 from 1990 levels - and increase the country's resilience to climate change.

The plan identifies about 100 mitigation and adaptation measures across many sectors, including energy, industry, agriculture, forestry, land use, and waste.

An estimated 7% of Tajikistan's gross domestic product will be required to fund all of the goals of the NDC Implementation Plan. Thus, the NDC Climate Finance Plan, developed with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), serves to identify, mobilize, assess, and expand international climate financing to help Tajikistan achieve these goals.

"We are pleased to discuss our results-oriented plans to maximize the implementation of the NDC and climate at this extremely important regional forum, especially among such respected colleagues and climate experts," said Abdukodir Mavlododod, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

"We are committed to working with development partners and other stakeholders, both local and international, to implement these plans, ultimately meeting or exceeding our NDC-related goals and contributing to global action on climate change at this urgent time."

The Climate Finance Forum is an important platform for representatives from Central Asian and South Caucasus countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan - members of the NDC Partnership, international financial institutions, multilateral development banks to identify and share successful means of promoting inclusive climate finance and international investments to implement NDC.

"This event is unique in that it fosters collaboration in a region particularly impacted by #climatechange, given its arid, landlocked geography," said Estefania Ardila, Deputy Director of Country Engagement for the NDC Partnership. "Meetings like these are very important. They serve as capacity-building and peer-learning functions, as well as opportunities to develop new climate solutions tailored to a specific region and the countries in it."

The #NDCPartnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 115 countries, both developed and developing, and more than 80 institutions to create and implement ambitious climate action that helps meet the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Governments determine their NDC implementation priorities and the type of support needed to translate them into actionable policies and programs. Based on these requests, the membership offers an individualized/specialized package of knowledge, technical assistance, and funding. This collaborative response provides developing countries with effective access to a wide range of resources to adapt to and mitigate climate change and promote more equitable and sustainable development.
