Training to improve the interaction of basin organizations and councils of the Kafernigan River                                                 

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, April 28, 2023 - In the conference hall of the Rumi Hotel, training was held “The legal foundations of organizing the activities of river basin organizations and river basin councils in the Republic of Tajikistan” within the framework of the “Integrated landscape approach to increase the sustainability of small farmers and cattle breeders to Climate change in Tajikistan. " The purpose of the event is to increase the potential and strengthen the mechanism of interaction between the working groups of the basin organizations of the Kafirnigan River on the integrated control of water and land resources resistant to climate change.

During the training, among other things, the features of the water sector reform and water resources planning in the Kafirnigan river basin, and integrated water resources management (IWRM), its principles and implementation in Tajikistan, as well as procedures and methods of water management planning at the level of river basins, sub-basins in the interests of water users. Also, during the training, the topics of the procedure for developing the water balance at the basin and sub-basin levels were discussed, discussed in one action plan, as a mechanism for managing the catchment area in the Kafirnigan river basin and the organization procedure, contractual relations, principles of work and results of activities on regional departments of sanitation and melioration. In the final sessions of the training, the topics of the development and plan of water use in the field of irrigation (irrigation) and the role and billing program in the regulation of financial relations of the regional departments of melioration through non-cash payments

The project aims to address the significant socio-economic impacts of climate change on the livelihoods of vulnerable communities, as well as to improve agricultural productivity and water availability through project components in the Kofirnigan River Basin.

Representatives of all relevant departments, both the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Agency for Melioration and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, were also involved in the training.

The project is financed by the Adaptation Fund and implemented by UNDP in Tajikistan together with the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
