UN CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION (UNCCD) IN THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN

The Republic of Tajikistan officially acceded the UN Convention to Combat Desertification on August 12, 1997 and the Republic of Tajikistan adopted the Convention by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 1140 in December 1998.

The National Plan to Combat Desertification in the Republic of Tajikistan was adopted by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on December 30, 2001, No. 598, and significant work has been done to implement it.

During the period of Tajikistan's membership, the following projects have been implemented under UNCCD:

- “Initiative of the Central Asian countries for sustainable land use supported by FAO, UNDP” (2011-2013);

- "Sustainable use of natural resources in Central Asia (EU, GIZ)" 2008-2015;

- "Environmental land management and rural livelihoods (World Bank)" 2013-2018;

- “Integrated Natural Resource Management in Drought-prone and Salt-affected Agricultural Production Landscapes in Central Asia and Turkey” (CACILM2) is being implemented by the Interregional Office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)  in Central Asia and Turkey and its representative office in Tajikistan;

The Promoting Integrated Natural Resource Management Project will be implemented in the amount of USD 96 000 in 4 target districts of the Khatlon region jointly with gender genetic resources and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences under CACILM-2 Project. In addition the "Application of drip irrigation methods in household plots" will be implemented in the Bokhtar city.
